Zapadno-Sibirskaya Power Station Turns 55
30 August 2018 (12:52)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 30, 2018. Kuzbass’s largest energy facility, Zapadno-Sibirskaya Power Station was founded exactly fifty-five years ago this month. The station is in charge of providing power supply to EVRAZ Holding’s West Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Works’ production site and heating supply to residents of Novokuznetsk’s Zavodskoy and Novoilyinsky Quarters, EVRAZ’s press service reports.
The station has put out over 142bn kilowatt-hours worth of energy (five times more than the entire Kemerovo Region needs in a year) and more than 140m gigacalories of heat (enough to keep Novokuznetsk warm for two decades) since it was founded fifty-five years ago.
Zapadno-Sibirskaya Power Station invests regularly in production upgrades, overhauls, and annual preparation for the upcoming fall/winter heating season. The station also works on a number of environmental projects. In 2017, Boiler 9 got re-launched after a major reconstruction. The boiler was converted from coal to coke and blast furnace gas, which increased the enterprise’s heat and power output by 10%. The change also resulted in reduced environmental impact. Also, a new fish-protecting system was introduced in the nearby Beregovaya Pumping Station to make sure no fish get hurt or killed through getting trapped in the intake chamber. Finally, the station is also having its electric filters for Boiler 7 reconstructed at the moment, with the goal of reducing its coal ash emissions.
