EVRAZ ZSMK Launches Wire-Winding Mill

15 August 2017 (16:25)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 15, 2017. A new wire-winding mill was recently launched at EVRAZ Holding’s West Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Works (ZSMK), EVRAZ Holding Siberia’s Corporate Relations Center reports.

‘This new Italian equipment is used to wind large rolls of wire that are 1,000 to 2,500 kg heavy into smaller ones (100 to 150 kg each), which is much more consumer-friendly. The smaller coils are easier to transport and unload, and no special equipment is needed to unwind them,’ the Center says.

The launch of this new mill signifies yet another important stage in the plant’s steel-rolling production upgrades. First, three up-to-date coiling appliances and a new packing machine were introduced as early as 2013; then, a number of new drawing machines were launched in 2015 in order to increase medium-sized wire output by 22,000 kg a year.

With this new equipment, ZSMK can now control a bigger share of the national metal goods market. The plant currently makes over 200 kinds of wire goods with all sorts of mechanical properties (up to 210,000,000 kg a year all in all). The plant supplies its wire produce both to customers within Russia and those in the CIS member states. ZSMK also makes B500C cold-deformed fittings, nails, and chain-wire.
