UrBC, Yekaterinburg, May 11, 2017. A group of orphaned children went on a guided tour of Ural Vagon Zavod on the eve of Victory Day, the plant’s press service reports.
The children were able to take a look at the production departments, learn about the history of Russian armored vehicle industry, and see the legendary tanks that are now the industry’s hallmark.
The tour was coordinated by Ural Vagon Zavod itself and Ural Tourism Association. The event involved children from two of Yekaterinburg’s live-in schools/foster homes: a vocational music school and a social rehabilitation center for minors.
‘These tours matter: they create a certain worldview and help the visitors feel respect for human labor, for their homeland, its history and its present. Children need to know how industrially powerful this country is. This is the first guided tour of this kind, where we take visitors both to the production site and the company museum as well as our testing range,’ says Ural Vagon Zavod Exhibition Center’s Director Alla Pislegina.
Children on the tour went to the plant’s railcar assembly department, where the famous T34 tanks were made during the war. Today, this is a place for manufacturing innovative railcars. They could also look at the most up-to-date metal treatment equipment at the metal goods department. Interestingly, upon learning that young visitors are expected, the department workers prepared some sweet treats for them. The children also had lunch in the workers’ canteen.
