MegaFon Ural Gets Ready for Spring Floods

21 April 2017 (14:59)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, April 21, 2017. The telecommunications provider MegaFon Ural’s engineering made sure the network is ready for the spring floods, the company press service reports.

‘Since it has snowed so much since the start of the year, the floods might be 37% more massive in 2017 compared with the many years’ average amount. According to weather forecasts, the snow will start melting rapidly in the second half of the month, and people living in Karpinsk, Krasnoufimsk, Turinsk, Irbit, Talitsa, Turinskaya Sloboda, Baikalovsky, and other towns are at risk,’ the press service says.

The company engineering teams check their network appliances and emergency power supply units in risk-prone territories every March and April. They also inspect the mains and cables and portable power stations.

‘It is essential that mobile connection be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year: this is our job. Getting ready for possible floods is also something we do as a matter of course. I’m positive MegaFon Ural’s network can withstand the elements. We had our stationary diesel generators (the ones that provide power supply to base stations in case of grid outage) tested and got our off-road vehicles and boats ready,’ says MegaFon Ural Network Maintenance Director Vladimir Glukhov.
