May 21, 2015. Ural Railway Carriage Design Office/UKBV (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) coordinated a scientific conference on innovative design solutions and developments in the carriage-building to celebrate the office’s 80th anniversary, the corporation’s press service reports.

The primary focus of the conference was on the scientific and technological aspects of developing the machine-building industry and heavy-weight carriage-building. For two days, presenters made reports on a wide range of topics from the latest technical solutions to development of innovative cars.

Besides, a special emphasis was made on the machine-building sector’s current hardships. Carriage-building enterprises’ outputs have gone down drastically due to a number of reasons, including shrinking cargo shipments and surplus of freight carriages. The conference thus served as a discussion platform for Russian Railways’ program to develop the country’s heavy-weight railway logistics.

‘We are interested in improving the Russian machine-building industry. Railway carriage makers tend to be their respective towns and cities’ primary or only employers. The state of events at Uralvagonzavod, Tikhvin Carriage-Making Plant, and a number of other industrial enterprises has a direct impact on the locals’ well-being and prosperity. It is the government’s strategic goal to provide these companies with work to do,’ said Executive Director of Carriage-Makers’ Union Vassily Varenov.

A protocol was drawn up at the end of the event and signed by all of the conference participants. The protocol will soon be presented to the Russian Federation Transport Ministry.
