April 9, 2015. Volchansky Mechanical Plant (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) is planning to expand its product range. The company manufactures railway cars and will soon start making Platform 23-5179 for transportation of rolled sheets, the corporation’s press service reports.
Ural Railway Design Office (a corporation’s member enterprise as well) provides the design documentation for the new variety. This is not the first time the plant and the design office work together on the development, introduction, and serial production of special-purpose carriages.
The platform is meant for in-plant use, namely, for transportation of rolled stock via 1,520mm railways. This 23-1579 make is fit for steel sheets that are 7,600mm to 12,500mm long, 2,700mm to 4,850mm wide, and up to 50mm thick. The platform’s capacity stands at 65,000kg.
‘Thanks to a number of design solutions, it will be possible to transport the sheets in a slanting position and to do all the loading and unloading with sheets placed horizontally, which meets the consignor and the consignee’s technological needs,’ the press service says.
