October 31, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Corporation presented Russia’s first innovative tram at the ExpoCityTrans 2014 International Exhibition in Moscow, the corporation’s press service reports.
The corporation’s stand, designed to look like a transport terminal of a metropolis, got a visit from Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin. Deputy Mayor for Transport & Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov had a look at the new tram and was informed about its technical parameters in the company of Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s DG Oleg Sienko.
‘Sergey Sobyanin wanted to know when R1 could start its on-the-road tests in Moscow. He was explained that R1 tram would be ready for trial runs in the summer of 2015,’ the press service says.
R1’s opening night in Moscow took off right after the World Cup 2018 logo had been presented at the exhibition: it is exactly the improvements in transport infrastructure of Russian cities hosting the championship that is one of the top preparation priorities.
Foreign visitors, including the Vice President of East Japan Railway Company Masaki Ogata, were also quite curious about R1. The Japanese executive spoke very highly of the Russian development.
ExpoCityTrans 2014 will run through November 1.
