Uraltransmash celebrates designer Yuri Tomashov’s 75th birthday

August 19, 2014. Uraltransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) celebrated the 85th birthday of their designer Yuri Tomashov, the corporation’s press service reports.
Chief Designer at Transmash Central Design Office (now known as Uraltransmash’s Transmash Special Vehicles Design Office), engineer, scientist, researcher, author of a number of research papers and inventions, Corresponding Fellow of the Russian Academy of Artillery Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor, and winner of the State and Lenin Prizes was born on August 8.
‘On this festive occasion, Tomashov met with the young designers from Transmash Special Vehicles Design Bureau and with students on the company’s Vertical Training and Professional Development Program. Nearly seventy people came to the company Museum Center to congratulate Yuri Tomashov on his special birthday. Uraltransmash’s young experts were interested in his career development, in the most important stages in his life, and in his famous design developments. The designer was happy to answer all of their questions,’ the company says.
Yuri Tomashov started working in 1948 and progressed through all the stages of design work from design technician to chief designer. He supervised all the work relating to the development of the 152-mm self-propelled howitzer Msta-S (2S19), the 152-mm self-propelled howitzer Akatsiya (2S3M), the 142-mm self-propelled mortar Tyulpan (2S4), the 152-mm self-propelled gun Giatzint S (2S5), the modernized mine planter GMZ3, and civilian goods such as Spectr tramway, sucker rod pump drives, and pulling hoists.
