UVZ Corporation Helps Build Leonid Kartsev Memorial

December 11, 2012. The solemn unveiling ceremony of a memorial dedicated to the prominent creator of tanks and Uralvagonzavod’s Chief Designer in the 50s and the 60s, Major-General Engineer Leonid Kartsev took place in Skomovo, Ivanovo Region. Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation (UVZ) helped to build and install the memorial, which is a sample of the T-62 tank – one of Kartsev’s most important creations, UVZ press service reports.

The solemn opening ceremony next to Kartsev’s home was attended by Governor of Ivanovo Region Mikhail Men, head of the Russian Defense Ministry Main Armored Tanks Administration Colonel-General Sergey Mayev, and member of the Soviet of the Federation Yuri Smirnov, as well as such representatives of UVZ Corporation as Deputy DG for Special Vehicles Vyacheslav Khalitov and Director-General and Chief Designer of Ural Transport Machine-Building Design Office Andrei Terlikov.

Unfortunately, the designer himself, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, was unable to attend the ceremony. His daughter Galina listened to the congratulations on his behalf. The state award – the Oder of Honor given to Leonid Kartsev by the Russian Federation President’s Decree as of July 28, 2012, will be given to him personally later on.
