June 19, 2014. A teaser site for the innovative tram R1 (Russia One) made by Uraltransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) is now available at r1.uvz.ru.
According to the corporation’s press service, the website gives visitors an idea of some parts of the tram and of what the model will look like.
‘The tram in its entirety will only be presented at the Innoprom 2014 Exhibition in Yekaterinburg on July 9, as well as on the website – r1.uvz.ru will get updated, and specialized accounts within social networks will start operating as well,’ the corporation says.
The R1 Project is being implemented by Uraltransmash in cooperation with designer Alexei Maslov’s Atom. The project is meant to demonstrate the Russian manufacturer’s level of competence, which is particularly relevant given the need to renovate the Russian cities’ fleets of tramways before the World Football Championship 2018 takes off.
R1 stands for a new living standard in a metropolis. The design of the cabin is customizable and can be adjusted to suit the needs of a specific route and urban environment. The body of the tram is made from composite materials, which makes maintenance much easier.
