8 July 2014 (14:30)

July 8, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation is going to present its innovative low-floor tram R1 (Russia One) at the international industrial exhibition Innoprom 2014, the corporation reports.

R1 is a joint project by Uraltransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) and Atom Design Office’s Alexei Maslov. In technical terms, this new tram is only 10% different from the series-produced model, yet thanks to its ‘space look’ it was unofficially dubbed ‘iPhone on rails’. The project’s teaser site was launched today at r1.uvz.ru. The tramway itself will be displayed at the corporation’s stand, which is going to be the biggest at Innoprom (700 sq m).

Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s Director-General Oleg Sienko will take part in the meeting of the Strategic Committee for Investing in New Industries under the Russian Federation Industry & Trade Ministry on July 9, the opening day of the exhibition. The meeting will be chaired by Russian Industry & Trade Minister Denis Manturov. On July 10, the corporation’s top manager will also join a round table discussion on import replacement and the new options open for the Russian industry in this field.

In addition to this, Uralvagonzavod Corporation is to sign a number of agreements on July 9, including the one on the production of innovative trams for Yekaterinburg in time for the World Football Championship 2018 and the one on setting up a joint venture with PESA that will manufacture modern luxury trams in Russia, as well as some other contracts.
