May 21, 2014. Sverdlovsk Region electric power industry will receive 310bn RUR worth of co-funding in 2015-2019. The money will be allocated from non-budgetary sources. This will make it possible to create 290 megawatts worth of power-generating facilities, Sverdlovsk Region Minister for Energy & Communal Housing Services Nikolai Smirnov said at a briefing today.

The program provides for the completion of hydro power stations in Nizhnyaya Tura and Serov and of the fourth power-generating unit in Beloyarskaya Power Station. The program will also result in the creation of some 20,000 permanent and temporary jobs, the minister pointed out.

Enhancing the reliability of Yekaterinburg’s electric power supply in preparation for the World Football Championship 2018 is one of the goals of the program. One large substation will be put up in the city.

By 2019, all the ‘problem spots’, of which the system currently has eight, will have been dealt with. This includes the nodes in Pervouralsk, Polevskoy, Salda, Kachkanar, Vostochny, and a number of other territories where no alternative power supplies are available.
