April 2, 2014. A multi-purpose turning and milling processing unit Weingartner 850-10000 from Austria was installed at Plant 9 (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod).

'This is a unique piece of equipment no like of which has been used by the company before,' the corporation's press service reports.

Employees from the plant's Tech Center took part in the assembly process, as did about ten Russian and foreign external experts, including assembly workers from Austria, who represented the producer country.

'The assembly took a few weeks to complete and required some additional skills on the workers' part: the thing is, the equipment this big is not meant for assembling in small, limited spaces. This is why reliable strapping mechanisms had to be employed during the relocation of the large nodes of the mill. When a 90,000kg body and a 15,000kg stand were installed, a truly unique and gargantuan task was completed: the gigantic mechanism was first lifted with the help of special supports and then moved slowly to its place. The start-up and commissioning are taking place at the moment along with the testing for geometrical accuracy,' the press service says.
