March 5, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation will invest over 1.78bn RUR in environmental projects in Nizhniy Tagil, where the corporation's head plant is located.

'We have been working on this for a number of years now, the corporation's head plant implemented 16 environmental protection projects last year, and the plant spent 54.2m RU R on this. Among the largest projects were the reconstruction of filtering facilities with replacement of obsolete technologies for the new ones. This will both improve the environmental situation and provide Uralvagonzavod with recycled water that meets manufacturing water standards. The recycling of slag heap is another important project. 518,500,000,000 kg of metallurgical by-products were recycled last year alone,' the corporation's press service says.

The air protection project included assembling 33 SovPlim filtering units at the mechanical welding department, which reduced chrome emissions; the gas purification facilities and filters were also repaired. This resulted in a 54.2% decrease in the amount of emission fees in 2013.

'To enhance the efficiency of measures taken to reduce our negative impact on the environment of Nizhniy Tagil, Sverdlovsk Region Government set up the target figures for a reduction in emission volumes: a 28.3% decrease in atmospheric emissions by 2020, a 25.1% decrease in manufacturing water dumping, and a 39% decrease in the amount of solid waste.'
