UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 5, 2019. EVRAZ Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) won the all-Russian Environmental Leader 2019 Contest as the Best Environmentally Responsible Ferrous Metallurgical Enterprise, EVRAZ Holding Ural's Corporate Communications Center reports.
EVRAZ NTMK has been working to reduce its harmful impact on Nizhniy Tagil's environment for many years. The plant allocated more than RUB 1bn to environmental projects every year.
'We are currently reconstructing the dust-suction facilities at the converter shop and retooling our Blast Furnace 6 with modern dust-filtering appliances; we are also working to shut down the coke gas cooling tower. All this will reduce our overall emissions by 442,000 kg,' the company says.
This year, the plant introduced new fish in Nizhniy Tagil's water bodies, releasing 5,000 young grass carps and 27,000 silver carps into Lenevsky Reservoir and Nizhniy Tagil Pond. NTMK is also gradually switching to water recirculation systems to minimize the amount of manufacturing water dumped into the local ponds. What is more, the plant gets its cooling towers and filtering facilities repaired and overhauled every year.
EVRAZ NTMK's environmental programs are part of the Federal Clean Air Project, which is itself a sub-project within the National Environment Project.
