UTair under investigation because of delayed Yekaterinburg-Phuket flight

December 6, 2013. Sverdlovsk Region public prosecution authorities for transportation are now looking into UTair Aviation Company's compliance with the consumer rights legislation, the spokesperson for Ural public prosecution authorities for transportation reports.

The investigation began after the airline's Boeing 757 that was to have operated Flight 5 139 from Yekaterinburg to Phuket was delayed by nearly 24 hours. The incident occurred on December 2-3, 2013.

It was determined in the course of the investigation that the cause of delay was a technical fault in the aircraft. Yet a back-up airplane was not provided to operate the flight within the scheduled time slot. Passengers had to wait for departure at a hotel and at Yekaterinburg's Koltsovo Airport.

Following this investigation, Sverdlovsk Region Public Prosecutor for Transportation will take appropriate steps, provided there are grounds for these.
