Uralcryomash to restore hydrogen tanks production

November 20, 2013. Uralcryomash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation) is going to restore its hydrogen tanks production, the corporation’s press service reports.
Now Uralcryomash experts were directly involved in the launch of a universal transportation space and missile system called Energiya-Buran on November 15, 1988.
Uralcryomash supplied the machinery needed to deliver liquid hydrogen to Buran. The experts from Nizhniy Tagil were faced with a challenging task of setting up four hydrogen-supplying facilities. Three out of four such facilities were actually created: the technical site for Buran where the system was prepared for the flight, the launching site, where it was filled with fuel, and the landing site, where the remaining fuel was poured out of the tanks.
Experts from the cryogenic plant in Nizhniy Tagil created 56 119-cubic-meter railway hydrogen tanks that were unique at the time and that haven’t been produced by anyone but this plant since. What is more, they developed and implemented a model for delivering extra pure oxygen called 15-558. This ensured the delivery of the key components onto the launching site.
