April 4, 2013. Seversky Pipe Plant (STZ), a member of Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), and Ural Hot-Dip-Galvanizing Plant manufactured a pilot batch of electro-welded galvanized large-diameter pipes (219mm) that enjoy great demand in the communal housing services sector, the company’s press service reports.
STZ Electric-Welded Pipe Department 2 is now making zinc-coated pipes with the diameter of up to 159mm and wall width 5mm.
In July 2012, STZ and Ural Hot-Dip-Galvanizing Plant experts started mastering the LDP galvanizing technology; these pipes also had a greater wall width: the dimensions were 219x6mm. The aim was to gauge the technical feasibility of galvanizing large-diameter pipes, the quality of coating, and the possibility of fixing the pipes during the dipping process. Following a series of trial treatment of a set of pipes, STZ design and engineering department elaborated special grippers to fix the pipes as they get dipped in the tanks during the galvanizing process. Five sets of such grippers were made by a service and repairs enterprise called Polevskoy Technical Service.
