UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, May 19, 2016. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works/MMK sheet-rolling department made 1,540,000 kg and shipped to customers 1,591,000 kg of zinc-coated pipes in April 2016. This is a record-setting figure throughout the department’s entire history of making hot-rolled galvanized products, the company press service reports.
The last time a record was set was in February, when the department produced 1,461,000 kg and shipped to customers 1,514,000 kg of zinc-coated pipes. Last year, the output came to 6,700,000 kg, while this year, the output reached some 5,000,000 kg in the four months of the year alone.
MMK embarked on its pipe production business as part of deep-processing metal treatment in the nineties, then launched a Swiss-made, up-to-date, automated galvanizing unit Sytco in 2001; the unit was used for zinc-coating of steel, electrically welded water and gas pipelines. Hot-rolled pipes with corrosion-resistant coating prove 2 to 2.5 times more reliable and long-lasting than their regular counterparts.
