April 3, 2013. VUZ-Bank is now offering customers gold and silver souvenir coins dedicated to the upcoming Sochi Olympics and the ones that have the Gold Chervonetz-Seedman theme that could serve as an investment. The Sochi 2014 coins are released in the run-up to the 222nd Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014; they have an unordinary rectangular shape and feature the mascot of the games, a leopard. The series consists of three kinds of coins: the silver ones, with face value of 3 RUR and weight of 31.1 grams, and the gold ones with face value of 50 RUR and 100 RUR and weight of 7.78 grams and 15.55 grams, respectively. The standard of alloy is 999, VUZ-Bank’s press officer reports.
The Seedman coin was established in the 20s of the 20th century: in 1923, the Soviet gold chervonetz, also known as Seedman, was launched as a legal tender. The tail side of the coin displays a peasant seedman, the head side of the coin shows the national emblem of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic. In 1975-1982, a few sets of gold chervonetzs were minted on the basis of the 1923 model. The newest version of Seedman is now available at VUZ-Bank. The coin contains 7.74 grams of gold (the standard of alloy is 900). The Seedman coin is one of the primary investment coins for the Bank of Russia.
VUZ-Bank also offers souvenir coins from other series: Sochi 2014, featuring different kinds of sports; Zodiac signs; and coins dedicated to the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
