Shipments at Sverdlovsk Railways Decline 3.3%

March 12, 2013. The volume of shipments handled by Sverdlovsk Railways came to 9.6m tons in February 2013, which was 3.3% less than a year earlier. At the same time, the average daily shipments volume rose y 0.1% against February 2012: despite the growing intensiveness of shipments, the final figures look worse this year mainly because this February was shorter than the last (2012 was a leap year), Sverdlovsk Railways’ press service reports.
The freight turnover decreased by 2.3% in February 2013 against a year earlier and amounted to 14.23bn ton-kilometers.
According to the current data, the shipments volume reached 19.1m RUR in January and February 2013, which was 6% less than in the two months of 2012. In the two months of 2013, Sverdlovsk Railways processed 5.6m tons of oil and oil products (+12% against a year earlier), 3.1m tons of building goods (-27.4%), 1.7m tons of ferrous metals (-4.1%), 298,800 tons of scrap ferrous metals (-11.9%), 2.1m tons of iron and manganese ore (+1.9%). 1.7m tons of chemical and mineral fertilizers (+1.4%), 735,000 tons of industrial raw stuffs and molding materials (-18.6%), 211,000 tons of coke (-14%), 333,000 tons of cement (-0.3%), 296,000 tons of timber (-13%), 1.1m tons of non-ferrous ore and sulphur stuffs (+3%), 674,000 tons of chemicals and sodium carbonate (-12.5%), 110.8m tons of coal (-33.6%), and 34,500 tons of grains by-products (-54.6%).
