FAS Warns SPK against Canceling 10 Commuter Trains

6 September 2012 (09:32)

Chelyabinsk Region division of Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service warned Sverdlovsk Suburban Company (SPK) against canceling ten commuter trains in Chelyabinsk Region, as this will infringe upon the local residents’ interests, the spokesperson for Chelyabinsk Region division of the FAS reports.

Canceling these trains, most of which are Kurgan-bound, will lead to a violation of the antimonopoly legislation because this might violate the Competition Protection Act (that is, this will mean unjustified canceling of a service that actually enjoys demand). The reason for canceling the trains is the delayed financing from Chelyabinsk Region Government.

It should be noted that SPK is now the dominant operator on the commuter transportation market in Ural Federal District.
