December 21, 2012. MTS announced it was about to launch a project on providing Wi Fi Internet access to users in Sverdlovsk Suburban Company’s (SPK) electric trains and at the commuter train stations, the company’s press service reports.
The new service is now available on the high-speed electric trains that travel from Yekaterinburg to Kamensk-Uralsky and from Yekaterinburg to Nizhniy Tagil. In the first half of 2013, the service will also be introduced on the city train and inside Koltsovo Express Train.
‘Every day, over 46,000 passengers use Sverdlovsk Railways’ commuter trains, and this figure keeps growing year on year; the passengers’ service quality expectations increase as well, which is why the development of the telecommunications services in the transport field is becoming especially relevant,’ says SPK Director-General Evgeny Savostin.
