27 May 2011 (09:18)

MMK Group is expected to save over 9m RUR this year due to the energy-saving measures launched at the group’s enterprises in the first quarter of 2011.

For one, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) runs programs on reducing energy spending every year.

Most of the measures were targeted at saving electric power. These included replacing the older light bulbs with the new, energy-saving ones, installing new electrical machinery instead of the old power-hungry type, and improving on the production processes. In the course of one year, the savings will amount to nearly 1.8m kilowatt-hours, or about 5.5m RUR all in all.

Thanks to the steps taken in the first three months of 2011, about 1,637 tons of fuel equivalent will be saved in terms of one year, which will save the company about 4m RUR. In addition, the savings will include 1,045 gigacalories of heat, 197,000 cubic meters of compressed air and air separation products, 1,000 cubic meters of drinking water, and 223,000 cubic meters of manufacturing water. The monetary savings are estimated to come to 9.29m RUR a year, MMK PR Department reports.
