Germanischer Lloyd certifies MMK ship steel
6 December 2010 (10:28)
The certificate-issuing company Germanischer Lloyd provided OAO Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) with a certificate that proves the enterprise’s Mill5000-manufactured shipbuilding steel’s compliance with the certificating body’s standards.
The unique plate Mill5000 was launched at MMK in July 2009; the unit’s capacity comes to 1.5 million tons of steel a year; its produce was meant for the shipbuilding industry as well as some others. The mill’s technological characteristics make it possible to manufacture things for the oil platforms stationed in the Arctic Regions and for the shipbuilding industry as well as to produce boiler components and to make ship steel for tankers, Russia’s Naval Forces, and modern ice-strengthened vessels.
‘OAO MMK has been successfully cooperating with Russia’s shipbuilding companies for a long time; we are one of the Russian shipbuilders’ major metal suppliers. MMK’s shipbuilding metal products have already been approved by a number of international certification bodies, and now the produce of Mill5000 is getting the approval of various certificate-issuing organizations. This is actually not the first time MMK Mill5000 ship steel has received the approval of a well-known and well-established organization: in November 2009, our ship steel was given an approval certificate by the Norwegian Det Norske Veritas. What is more, Mill5000 shipbuilding produce has already been certified by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Russian River Register,’ MMK PR Department reports.
