Sverdlovsk Region is going to consider buying some crops in Armenia and Ukraine, Head of Sverdlovsk Region Government Anatoly Gredin announced at a recent government meeting on the region’s grain and flour supply and delivery.

The region’s Deputy Minister for Agriculture Vladimir Grebnev informed the attendees that about 260,000 tons of grain or 200,000 tons of flour were required by the mid-Urals’ bread-making industry every year.

‘Our region can only provide for 10% of its own grain needs and depends directly on the pricing policies of the suppliers from the other Russian regions. We import crops from Omsk, Kurgan, and Tyumen Regions,’ Grebnev explained.

Anatoly Gredin pointed out that the government kept the situation on the regional grain and flour market as well as the market’s pricing polices under its special supervision.

To make sure the region can diversify its grain sources, the government will consider getting a 58-million-ruble loan for Sverdlovsk Region Food Market Development Agency. In addition, a regional bread and fodder grain fund will be set up.
