Governor Sumin sets up demographics committee

Governor of Chelyabinsk Region Petr Sumin signed a decree that sets up a regional demographic development committee.

According to the spokesperson for the Governor, this coordination committee is a new advisory body with a mission to coordinate the actions of the state authorities, the local governments, and non-governmental organizations in the field of the region’s demographic policies. The council is to organize interdepartmental events that will help to improve the local demographics and to draw up improvement proposals. Then, this new committee is to analyze the birth and mortality rates in order to make the regional policies more efficient. Finally, the committee will have to provide the Russian Federation Ministry for Healthcare and Social Development with the data and reports on the local demographic development programs and their expert examination reports on these programs.

The committee is to be chaired by Deputy Governor Evgeniy Redin. Among the members are the representatives of the regional ministries and departments, the officers from the Federal Migration Service, the Federal State Statistics Service, Chelyabinsk Region’s division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Chelyabinsk Region’s Legislative Assembly deputies, and heads of some municipalities, namely, Chelyabinsk, Miass, Magnitogorsk, and Kopeisk as well as Sosnovskiy, Etkulskiy, and Argayashskiy districts.
