Utel ‘stars’ in online strong language clip
8 October 2008 (08:41)
Utel (aka Uralsvyazinform), one the region’s major telecommunications provider, has recently been featured in an online video clip called The Immaculate Connection.
In terms of the plot, the clip shows a conversation between a young man and a young woman wearing a kimono. The man apparently does not want any children and says he is not willing to provide for the baby, whereupon the woman kicks him several times. In the end, they quarrel bitterly using quite a bit of strong language, and the final slogan reads,’ Utel’s Immaculate Connection. So much for the conversation.’
The spokesperson for the provider was unable to explain the clip’s appearance on the Net. In fact, it might have been uploaded by Utel’s rivals or Internet thugs in order to do harm to the company’s reputation. This might be why the clip shows a quarrel and exposes the viewer to swear words.
At the same time, the clip in question might also be a part of Utel’s own promotion campaign based on the so-called virus marketing techniques.
Uralsvyazinform (which owns Utel trademark) has experienced one of the most dramatic stock price downfalls during the last several months’ financial crisis. It could be that the company has tried to go for an alternative low-cost way of promoting the trademark at the time of a financial trouble.
