Tube Works of Pervouralsk resumes operation after breakdown at 4 PM on October 4 only
9 October 2006 (09:56)
‘The breakdown at the main station of the works occurred at 2.30 AM on October 4, 2006; it was caused by tube-rolling shop # 8 catching fire and damaging the equipment of the station that provides power and electricity for the works. The fire was only put out at 5.45 AM, which resulted in the better part of the departments left without electricity. The supply was partly restored by the beginning of the working day, and all the departments got back on track by 4 PM, except for shop # 8 (it will have to be given overhaul),’ the company’s spokesperson Janna Olkhovikova said to UrBC representative.
According to Ms Olkhovikova, the overhaul was only scheduled for October 10, yet it will now begin earlier because of the breakdown. A special committee is currently looking into the causes of the breakdown and assessing the damage done to the works. This accident also resulted in a massive power cut in the residential area located to the north of the works.
