Public prosecution bodies of Chelyabinsk Region find instances of air safety violations in airports of Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk

19 September 2006 (12:50)

According to the spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor of Chelyabinsk Region, the recent investigation of how the airports complied with the air safety legislation revealed instances of violating the regulations that could lead to air accidents.

Among other things, the luggage inspection points or metal detectors were not equipped with explosive fumes detectors; the inspection of freight at the Cargo Service department was performed without the obligatory appliances such as an X-ray TV stationary introscope. The technical support staff as well as the ground crew and the transportation personnel sometimes used vehicles with faulty lighting, and parking areas for planes were maintained badly when it rained or snowed.

The investigation resulted in resignation of the Safety Director of Chelyabinsk airport and in disciplinary punishments for three executives operating at the Air Safety Service of Magnitogorsk airport.
