UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 15, 2019. EVRAZ Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) won the 16th Highly Socially Efficient Ore Mining & Metallurgical Enterprise Contest in Environmental Projects & Energy-Saving, EVRAZ Holding Ural’s Corporate Communications Center reports.

The contest gets coordinated by Russia’s Industry & Trade Ministry, Russia’s Ore Mining & Metallurgical Complex Association, and Russia’s Ore Mining & Metallurgical Trade Union.

In 2018, the plant’s environmental programs resulted in a 10% decrease in the amount of air emissions, whilst a series of energy-saving steps resulted in a RUB 228m cut in spending.

‘EVRAZ NTMK was Russia’s first enterprise to introduce a new converter steam recycling technology, which cut our annual natural gas spending by 20m m3, reduced our environmental footprint, brought down the noise level, and reduced our chemically purified water losses down to 286,000 m3 a year. Our forming/casting department’s heating furnaces now run on a mixture of blast furnace and coke gases, which means we can buy 2m m3 less natural gas every year. Blast Furnace 7, with an up-to-date suction system, got launched last year, and our dry coke quenching plant started operating at its full capacity as well,’ the company says.
