EVRAZ ZSMK To Use Rail Navigation System
3 September 2019 (09:11)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, September 3, 2019. EVRAZ West-Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Plant (ZSMK) is getting its railcars fitted wit GLONASS navigation systems and fuel meters, the company’s press service reports.
‘The navigation system can track the locos’ movement, speed, the direction they are moving in, and the stops they take. The fuel meters track their fuel spending, which lets you design the best logistics scheme, distribute the workload evenly among the railcars and locos, and react to emergencies in a timely manner,’ the press service says.
EVRAZ ZSMK had its automobiles and trucks fitted with GLONASS systems as early as 2018. By the end of this year, all of the plant’s vehicles will get completely GLONASSed. As a result, the company will have a single traffic map at its disposal, with data entered into a single database and used for performance analysis and production improvements.
95% of all the cargo EVRAZ ZSMK forwards/receives at the moment gets there by rail. The company operates some 500 km worth of railroads, with over 4,000 railcars and 70 locos busy on the rails every day.
The plant also operates 250 automobiles and trucks 1,500 kg to 65,000 kg strong.
