Magnitogorsk Plant of Rolling Rolls Turns 15
29 August 2019 (09:24)
UrBC, Magnitogorsk, August 29, 2019. MMK Group’s member enterprise Magnitogorsk Plant of Rolling Rolls was founded fifteen years ago this month. Over the years, the plant has grown into the home market leader and one of Russia’s largest centrifugally cast sheet-rolling roll and section steel roll manufacturer, MMK’s Information & PR Department reports.
In 2005, one year into operation, the plant worked together with the Slovenian company Valji Group d.o.o. to master the technology for making two- and three-layer centrifugally cast sheet-rolling rolls. The following August, the plant cooperated with CNIITMASH to start making centrifugally cast section steel rolls.
A major production upgrade took off at the plant in 2013, starting at the casting department. Commissioning the first gas- and energy-efficient hi tech facility was the first stage of the plant’s development strategy for 2014-2022.
Next, two new induction furnace devices (4,000 kg- and 6,000 kg-strong) got launched in 2015, cutting down on the plant’s heating energy losses and carbon monoxide footprint. Finally, another set of induction furnace devices (10,000 kg to 20,000 kg) replaced the older counterparts, and dust-trapping appliances got installed at every set of induction furnace devices.
Magnitogorsk Plant of Rolling Rolls intends to invest RUB 900m in the upgrades by 2022 all in all.
