MegaFon Launches NB-IoT-Based SmartUtilities Solution
19 July 2019 (10:26)
UrBC, Moscow, July 19, 2019. MegaFon now offers its customers SmartUtilities, a solution that relies on the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) standard, the telecom company’s press service reports.
The solution can control electric power, heating, natural gas, and water spending within a given home/building. SmartUtilities will be useful for electric power, heating power, and water suppliers, management companies, and housing developers.
SmartUtilities is fully compatible with the popular systems 1C and GIS ZhKH, ensures automated collection of data (without the need for actual human workers to come to the end users’ homes), and produces spending reports using the said data. The end users don’t need to enter their heating and water meter information into the system either, everything gets accounted for automatically.
The solution combines the features of an automated meter data collection system, a user-friendly web application, and a vast library of drivers for various types of digital meters, and can integrate easily with all kinds of external systems. SmartUtilities can control electric power, heating, natural gas, and water spending as well as read information off leakage sensors, motion sensors, anti tamper switches, and so on. All the meters and sensors can also get set up and operated remotely.
The data transfer relies on the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) standard, which means, among other things, self-contained power supply and flexible power spending. The batteries can operate up to ten years on a single charge, which makes them extremely cost-effective.
