UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 3, 2019. Mayor of Yekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky hopes Yekaterinburg will get to host the best Universiade in history, the town council’s press service reports.

‘The decision has been taken, the Universiade will take place in Yekaterinburg. This is enormous responsibility in terms of getting every facility ready and every event organized in the next three to four years. The work must certainly begin as soon as tomorrow. For Yekaterinburg, this is a very solid chance to support its status as both a sports and culture center and to prove a truly global city. Large numbers of international visitors are going to come here for the event, which actually means we’ll be hosting the people who represent the future of different world countries. It’s important to make sure the travelers arriving in Yekaterinburg find the city nice and their experience positive. This is why we are planning for culture events, festivals, and other things within the Universiade. With support from Sverdlovsk Region Government, the town community made a great step forward, as Yekaterinburg got granted the privilege of hosting this grand event. The crucial thing now is to be able to go through with the project and make this Universiade the best in history,’ Vysokinsky said.

Yekaterinburg got elected as the host for the Summer Universiade of 2023 at the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) Executive Committee meeting on July 2.
