UrBC, Magnitogorsk, June 11, 2019. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) Mill 4500 and Mill 2350 have produced 50,000,000,000 kg of rolled metal goods since the day of the launch, MMK’s Information, PR & Advertising Department reports.
‘Before the war, Mill 4500 used to operated at Ilyich Mariupol Metallurgical Plant. When the frontline drew close to Mariupol in early August 1941, the State Defense Committee ruled for the mill to get dismantled and transferred to MMK alongside the workers who ran the equipment. As soon as November 1, 1941, the first armored sheet came off the mill at MMK, and as many as 60,000,000 kg worth of tank armor material got produced at the plant in December of the same year. The heavy-plate Mill 2350 got evacuated to MMK from Zaporozhe. This was the country’s best sheet mill at the time, with project capacity at 280,000,000 kg. The mill also got reassembled exceptionally fast, so that the first metal sheet got manufactured as soon as July 1, 1942,’ the company says.
Both Mill 4500 and Mill 2350 are still active and contribute greatly to MMK’ production achievements. In 2018, the mills’ output was 164,000,000 kg and 226,000,000 kg of hot-rolled metal goods, respectively.
‘The mills make rolled metal sheets (width range: 6-100 mm) for customers in the ship-building, bridge-building, and machine-building industries as well as for pipe-manufactures and other enterprises. The long-service mills remain useful thanks to the well-run repair and maintenance cycles that can expand the equipment’s lifespan,’ MMK’s Information, PR & Advertising Department says.
