1,200+ people joined in the race, including (for the first time) children with disabilities from Nizhniy Tagil Elementary School/Kindergarten 105 and a special-needs school in Kachkanar. The race gathered together adults and children from Nizhniy Tagil, Kachkanar, Yekaterinburg, Lesnoy, Kushva, Ivdel, Verkhnyaya Salda, Petrokamenskoye, Nikolo-Pavlovskoye, Bashkarka, Brodovo, and Gornouralsky. The race’s youngest runner Viktoria Karelina is only five, the oldest ones, Yuri A. Araslanov and Alexei I. Vassilyev, are both over eighty.
The Managing Director of EVRAZ Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ NTMK) and EVRAZ Kachkanar Ore Mining & Processing Enterprise (EVRAZ KGOK) Alexei Kushnarev, Mayor of Nizhniy Tagil Vladislav Pinayev, and Chair of Nizhniy Tagil Duma Alexei Pyrin all welcomed the runners at the start.
‘The race is the annual event the locals always look forward to. This is more than just a competition, this is a large-scale town festival that increasingly more people join every year. It’s great to see so many EVRAZ employees (including managers) and Nizhniy Tagil and Kachkanar town council officials running the race together,’ says Alexei Kushnarev.
The charity race runners contributed nearly RUB 100,000 in donations; EVRAZ is going to add exactly as much, with the entire amount going to Nizhniy Tagil Elementary School/Kindergarten 105 and a special-needs school in Kachkanar. The money will be used to purchase sports equipment and appliances.
