UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 29, 2018. You can now use MegaFon SIM cards to test the quality of drinking water in Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk: the smart solutions have been applied within the telemetric quality control system of local water vending machines, the company press service reports.

Now according to the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center, over 60% of Russians are not really curious about the quality of potable water, and 84% of their respondents drink water from the tap. In Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk, locals boil, filter, or desilt it first. Even these precautions might not be sufficient, however.

The company Vodorobot now offers its customers a 24/7 online water testing service: thanks to MegaFon’s IoT technologies, the system keeps track of every water vending machine’s performance and stores/displays data relating to water volume, filter capacity, and the ultraviolet disinfection units’ condition on the dispatchers’ monitors.

‘Every time the water comes out from the vending machine into the customer’s bottle, the telemetric quality control system tests all the necessary parameters automatically,’ says Vodorobot’s Senior Engineer Alexander Kondrashkin.

Every one in four MegaFon SIM cards is now used within some sort of equipment rather than a smartphone/tablet, with 6.6m SIM cards used in the IoT solutions throughout Russia all in all.
