10 September 2018 (09:15)
UrBC, Magnitogorsk, September 10, 2018. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) keeps reconstructing its hot-roll Mill 2500 at Sheet Rolling Department 4, the company press service reports.
The reconstruction will make it possible for the plant to expand its product range as well as to improve its produce quality. The mill’s overall capacity will also rise from 4,000,000,000 kg to 5,000,000,000 kg of rolled goods a year.
Currently under modernization are the roughing trains and the wind-up station. The foundation and the off-site launching pad for the roughing trains’ housing sections have already been completed; equipment for Wind-Up Stations 7 and 8 got assembled. The builders and mechanics are now working on the roughing train foundations, the roll change units, the primary and secondary recirculating water systems, the electrical equipment for the roughing trains, the turbine room, and the roll pick-up conveyor lines.
MMK and SMS Group GmBH signed a contract for the delivery of roughing train equipment for Mill 2500 in February 2018. All the machines and units will be delivered within the next three years. The upgrades will result in an improved mill automated control system, among other things. According to MMK Director-General Pavel Shilyayev, the reconstruction of Mill 2500 is part of the plant’s overall development strategy for 2018-2025.
