EVRAZ ZSMK Installs New Ultrasonic Check Unit

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 8, 2018. A new automated ultrasonic testing unit (aka UKR 25) has been recently installed at EVRAZ Holding West Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Works (ZSMK) rail-making department; the unit is now part of the non-destructive testing line, the company press service reports.
The unit is meant for detecting the rails’ internal defects such nonmetallic particles, voids over 2mm large, and so on. The unit can test for defects in any type of rail, including the OR 65 switch point rails.
The unique appliance was designed and manufactured by Saint Petersburg-based NII MOSTOV specially for EVRAZ ZSMK. The equipment underwent all the testing procedures successfully and is now on Russian Railways’ official measuring devices list.
