UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 4, 2017. Rosset’s Federal Grid Company United Energy Systems intends to install 8,800 new glass insulators at its Urals-based electric mains before the end of the year, the company press service reports.
The goal is to improve the power facilities’ performance in Perm Territory, Orenburg Region, Sverdlovsk Region, and Chelyabinsk Region and to ensure a better power supply at Verkhnetagilskaya Power Station, Yuzhno-Uralskaya Power Station, and Chelyabinsk Power Station.
6,500 porcelain insulators have been replaced with their glass counterparts so far. The replacements involve the 220-kilowatt Falenki-Bumkombinat, Falenki-Tyagovaya, Verkhnetagilskaya Power Station-Tagil, Kurchatovskaya-Kamenskaya, Kurchatovskaya-Okunevo, Verkhnetagilskaya Power Station-Pervomayskaya, Kozyrevo-Shumikha,Yuzhno-Uralskaya Power Station-Shagol, and Chelyabinsk Power Station-Shagol mains and the 110-kilowatt Kiembay-Scherbakovskaya main.
‘Unlike their porcelain versions, the glass insulators don’t get dirty so easily and have better insulating and mechanical strength properties. The defects are easy to detect without any special diagnostic devices, which means they get replaced in time to avoid emergencies,’ the press service says.
