KMEZ to Make More Copper Cathodes
6 June 2017 (11:56)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 6, 2017. Russian Copper Company’s Kyshtym Copper Electrolysis Plant (KMEZ) in Chelyabinsk Region is working on a new site to host two additional sets of electrolysis baths.
‘We had to pull down the existing columns and cross bars, remove flooring and excess soil, and shift the existing ventilation system from the place where the baths should be. Next, we have to lay the foundation for the support beams that will back up the new technological equipment,’ the company press service reports.
The extra electrolysis baths will mean the company’s transformer substation will also have to gain some additional capacity. To achieve this, the current SCR transformer units will have to get replaced with more powerful ones. These new transformers have already been delivered onto the site and are about to get assembled.
‘All the building and assembly jobs are being performed while production is running as usual, so the work process hasn’t been affected. We keep on working on this investment project and still meet our contractual obligations to customers in full,’ says KMEZ Director-General Andrei Kudryavtsev.
