MMK METIZ Works on Import Substitution

15 December 2016 (14:52)

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, December 15, 2016. The metal goods manufacturer MMK METIZ now makes copper-plated welding wire from S2Mo steel (diameter: 4.0 mm) as part of its import substitution program.

‘MMK METIZ is doing this by order of its key partner, Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant’s Vysota 239 Pipe Welding Department. The wire is used for automatic arc-smelting of large-diameter pipes made from alloyed and low-alloyed steels. The LDPs are customized to withstand increased working pressure and harsh climatic conditions. The wire was developed by MMK METIZ R&D department; the new steel type, S2Mo, was mastered with support from Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK),’ the company press service says.

Is reported that MMK METIZ’s new welding wire will make it unnecessary for customers to buy the product abroad. A pilot batch of copper-plated welding wire made from S2Mo steel has already been tried out at Vysota 239, with good results.
