EVRAZ NTMK Makes More Steel
27 December 2016 (14:22)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 27, 2016. EVRAZ Holding’s Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Works (NTMK) introduced an automated ferrous alloy treatment system at the plant, EVRAZ Holding Ural’s press office reports.
‘We now operate two ferroalloy smelting chambers with an automated tracking system, feed-control sensors, and scales. Each of the two chambers is meant for a particular type of ferrous alloys, so new treatment systems make it easier to get additives ready for smelting,’ the press office says.
A steel-smelter’s assistant enters the necessary amount of ferrous alloys needed for a particular smelting session into a special software program, with all the parameters displayed in the plant’s unified network (which makes process supervision possible).
The new treatment systems are suitable for both storing the ferroalloys and filtering the smaller particles unfit for steel-making.
Additionally, a new automated calcium carbide-loading unit was introduced at the plant; just like ferroalloys, the substance is used for deoxidation. Thanks to this new appliance, metal additives now get loaded fully automatically.
