UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 12, 2016. High-speed 4G Internet connection is now available in fifty-five more locations in the Urals, the telecommunications provider MegaFon reports.

The company installed hundreds of new-generation towers in the area this year, providing another 1.5m people with access to high-speed Internet connection.

In addition to launching a number of 4G facilities, special efforts to improve connection and widen mobile Internet access options were made in 200 places ranging from big cities to smaller towns with population of just 100 to 150 people.

‘Equipment, sensible outwear, felt boots, and good mood: this is what our network mechanics’ winter outfit looks like. Before they can access a facility for repairs or maintenance, our engineers first need to get an entry permit, get past the gatekeepers, enter the roofs, and explain to the dwellers that there is nothing to worry about and they are repairing the equipment not dismantling it. This was the routine for some 1,200 base stations in the area this year,’ says MegaFon Ural’s Network Maintenance Director Vladimir Glukhov.

This year, LTE was made available to Sverdlovsk Region-based Novouralsk, Bogdanovich, Sukhoi Log, Verkhnyaya Salda, Irbit, Lesnoy, Talitsa, Rezh, and Kirovgrad, boosting the local Internet traffic by 30%.
