MMK Creates New Rolling Technologies

7 October 2016 (14:16)

UrBC, Saint Petersburg, October 7, 2016. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) is currently taking part in the 6th Saint Petersburg International Gas Forum. For one, Head of MMK Technical Department Grigory Shchurov presented his report at a round table discussion on the Russian pipe-manufacturing industry’s innovative development.

According to Shchurov, MMK is working to develop new rolling technologies to enable import substitution of large-diameter pipes. The company produced and certified pilot batches of K60 heavy plates for the Power of Siberia Pipeline, for example. The plates are meant for making the sections of pipelines that will be placed in tectonic fault spots in seismic zones and permafrost areas, which means they must have enhanced seismic and thermal resistance properties.

MMK is one of the leading metal good suppliers for the Russian pipe manufacturers and provided its sophisticated steel varieties made at MMK Mill 5000 for large-scale oil pipelines such as Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok, Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Ukhta-Torzhok, the Southern Corridor, the Power of Siberia, and others.

MMK delivered 932,000,000 kg of rolled metal goods to pipe manufacturers last year, which exceeded the figures for the year 2014 by nearly a quarter.

‘This is a considerable contribution MMK has made to import substitution and the implementation of Russia’s major oil and gas pipeline projects,’ the company press service says.
