UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 24, 2016. The Ural Bank for Reconstruction & Development had over 2,000 new POS terminals installed throughout the country in the five months of 2016, which was 54% more than in January-May 2015, the bank’s press service reports.

41% of the new terminals were installed in Sverdlovsk Region, the shares of Bashkortostan and Krasnodar Territory came to 9% each.

The POS outputs rose by 30.5% between January and May, with the number of transactions up by 53.9% (1.9m).

‘The state has been actively promoting cashless payments for the last few years, so increasingly more people tend to use their bank cards at stores. This results in greater demand for point-of-sale terminals at shops and service outlets,’ says UBRD Corporates Development Director Elena Sorvina.

According to the bank’s data, new POS terminals get installed at supermarkets most often (20% of all new units), and those installed at supermarkets, home appliances stores, and restaurants, also get the highest outputs.
