Sverdlovsk Region farmers won’t be able to preserve harvest

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 9, 2015. The vegetables harvested in Sverdlovsk Region after the first low temperatures won’t last long, Deputy DG of Belorechensky Irina Nadezhdina told UrBC.
Based on the weather forecast, the first cold nights are to be expected on October 9-10. In the meantime, some potatoes, vegetables, and crops are still in the ground. The over-moist soil makes it impossible to proceed with the harvesting process, so the remaining yield will have to face the frost.
‘Whatever has been affected by the frost won’t get preserved well. These vegetables will have to be sold immediately,’ she said.
Last year’s harvesting campaign also turned out to be quite challenging due to weather conditions. As a result, local farmers had no way of drying the vegetables and crops up, which meant more of them got rotten in the storage facilities than what usually is the case.
