March 19, 2015. Head of Yekaterinburg Council Alexander Yakob held a V-Day Parade Committee meeting to look into preparations for the 70th anniversary of Russia winning the Great Patriotic War.
According to the city council’s press service, the military parade in Yekaterinburg’s main square is traditionally the key celebration event. This year, the city council asked the Central Military District’s command to have their air forces join the parade. The military supported the idea, so, for the first time in Yekaterinburg’s history, aircraft will take place in the V-Day Parade on May 9, 2015. Two SU25 fighter-bombers and eight MI8 helicopters will fly over the square. The aircraft are currently being examined and prepared and the route is being laid out.
‘As for the terrestrial vehicles, the war veterans, Yekaterinburg residents and visitors to the city will be able to see our mobile theater ballistic missile system Iskander that has no counterparts anywhere in the world; this unit was given to Central Military District six months ago. This year, the number of seats on the spectator stands will be tripled and will come to 1,500. All in all, eighty-seven vehicles will take part in the parade, including ten from the war times. The parade will be broadcast onto fifteen multimedia screens all over the city,’ the press service says.
