ChTPZ upgrades weldless pipe department

March 13, 2015. Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) had its weldless hot-rolled pipe department upgraded; a new bandsawing machine UMSY 600SP, which cost around 15m RUR, was launched there, ChTPZ Group’s press service reports.

The new equipment is meant for cutting solid billets, pipes, and sections (diameter up to 600mm) made of various metals and alloys. The machine’s capacity comes to 100m per minute.

This mechanical cutting method comes to replace the flame pipe-cutting one. The use of the latter worsened the quality of metal at the pipe’s ends, so 40mm had to be left at both sides of the pipe for distortion allowance; the use of the new UMSY 600SP results in a smooth edge and no thermally affected areas, which reduces metal spending by 5kg per pipe.

‘The plant’s metallurgists have already mastered all the cutting modes for the entire range of pipes made with the help of this machine and are ready to supply our customers with pipes of exact length, with no in-lays. Our pipes are mainly used in the machine-building and energy sectors,’ the group’s press service says.
